IQ Glass - Specialist Glaziers
Architectural Glazing Specialists
This contemporary new build home was designed to maximise the natural light for the interior design whilst making a statement across the exterior design. The architects specified a pale brick exterior, allowing the large elevations of glass and timber cladding to be the primary features.
To contrast the pale brick and clear glass features, timber cladding was specified in the form of vertical fins. This modern approach to cladding draws the eye upon first glance, creating a focal point whilst offering solar shading to the areas directly behind the timber volumes.
Technowood use aluminium to fabricate the vertical fin structures, before using real timber for the finishing. The advantages of using Technowood for structures of this nature are vast, with sustainability at the heart. As well as a more sustainable material, the vertical fins are lightweight, making the installation process quicker and easier.
Vertical fins were used at multiple points across the exterior of this modern home, with various spacing options providing an eye-catching design that is both functional and stylish. On the balcony area, the timber fins are used in conjunction with frameless glass balustrades to act as a safety barrier. Thanks to the gaps between beams of timber, the views remain unobstructed and natural light can still penetrate the structure to flood the internal living space with light.
When specifying timber cladding from Technowood, architects and specifiers can choose the thickness and spacing of the beams for a completely unique design. Although this home uses the same timber finish throughout, another option is to use different finishes to create a contrast.
