Why are these systems so much slimmer?
The reason the Keller minimal windows pivot door can achieve a much slimmer sightline than the Reynaers system, for example, is that the glass in these ultra-slim pivot doors is bonded into the frame.
In more conventional pivot, casement door and window systems, the glass is typically retained within the frame using a glazing bead. Because the bead remains visible, it contributes to the overall frame depth. Structurally bonding the glass into the frame can reduce this visible profile.

Weather Performance Comparison
Weather performance is where architectural pivot doors often separate themselves from purely aesthetic products. The nature of a pivot door removes a lot of the natural weather barriers you get with a typical casement window or door. As the opening part of the door sits within the outer frame - compounded with the fact that the pivoting action does not allow the opening frame to overlap any of the fixed frame to create a weather seal like you can do with a hinged door - it can be notoriously difficult to find a pivoting door with high levels of weather tightness and performance.
Weather Seal Method
Due to the nature of a pivoting action, the opening leaf does not overlap with the outer frame like you see with a hinged casement window or door. That means manufacturers have to find other ways to weather seal a pivot door.
The most common weather seal method is a brush seal. These soft-bristled gaskets are fixed around the outer edge of the door and compress as the pivot leaf closes into the outer frame. The downside is reduced air tightness, particularly over time as the brush seals compress.
The second most common weather seal method is a rubber gasket. Like a brush seal, it is fixed around the outer edge of the pivoting door. The malleable rubber allows the gasket to give as the door closes, then creates a seal between the pivoting leaf and fixed frame. This can improve water and air tightness compared with a brush seal.
The most robust weather seal method for a pivot door is a magnetic seal. When the pivot door closes, a magnetic bar in the fixed outer frame is pulled into place, slotting into the pivot door leaf and creating a solid weather seal between the pivot and fixed frame.
