How to add parking spaces to your home with a contemporary solution

With today’s housing crisis more homes are being built and extended than ever. With the increase in inhabitants comes increased congestion on our streets. This is why homes with available off-street parking are a hot commodity on the housing market, whether it is a double garage or maybe a just a garage roof.

Many new homes have a planning stipulation that off-street parking will be catered for so this needs to be considered during design and incorporating altered or updated parking areas to your own house during a renovation project is a popular housing project. But how do you do this without detracting from the design of your home?

When proceeding with additions and changes of the existing projected space for cars, several solutions can be considered; including a garage in the garden, a carport, an isolated garage, a garage connected with the house, underground parking or even the integration of parking space in the same building.

Different solutions were explored in a recent article in by Homify. These covered several options that tenants at the Sky House Design Centre can help with. The IQ Glass Canonbury Square project was featured in the Homify article, providing a garden room and a garage to the rear of a narrow garden in London.  The steel box was fitted with highly reflective glass panels to create a mirrored external surface. This mirrored surface was designed to reflect the surrounding garden to allow the garden room to blend into the garden.

Garage doors can be designed to match most front door designs, depending on the functionality you require. Side hung and steel reinforced for are predominantly recommended for smaller, more traditional openings. For larger openings, up and over or bi-fold are available in manual and automated formats.

Additionally, Sky House Design Centre has a very new innovative roof system, the aluminium louvre roof, Umbris which is perfect to be used as a carport. As the structure can be classed as a non-permanent structure it can help create protected car parking spaces in more delicate planning areas. A large example of this architectural louvre roof has now been installed and is available to view at Sky House Design Centre. The louvre roof can be designed in numerous configurations and has the ability to span 7m without needing a supporting leg. Making it an extremely suitable product for use as a carport.
