August/September Media Roundup

21 November 2016

The tenants at the Sky House Design Centre have had multiple features in the August and September issues of a variety of magazines including Grand Designs and Studio.

In the August issue of Grand Designs, Umbris was featured in a ‘Buyers Guide To External Shading’ article. The article states that using an external shade can help cool down the living area and is much more cost-effective than air conditioning or similar electronic systems. An Umbris louvre roof is the perfect solution for external shading as the louvres can be closed to shade your home but can also be left open to allow sunlight into your home, perfect for the winter.

An Urban Front project ‘The Glass House’ was also featured in the August issue of Grand Designs. This project was featured as a six page spread. This new build was built on an old garage site with the L shape plan following the footprints of the original garages and the tarmac forecourt that has become the courtyard garden.

Urban Front installed the Terano front door that leads to a double height entrance hall. One of the main necessities when choosing the front door was to make sure that the materials complemented the adjacent teak wood kitchen doors. The door used in this project is the Terano in Oak.

Urban Front were also featured in both September issues of Build It and Homebuilding & Renovating. The Porto E80 pivot door was featured as part of the ‘Spend v Save’ in the News section of the Build It magazine. The door featured has been made from Iroko but is also available in Western Red cedar, European Oak and American black walnut. This front door was the ‘Spend’ choice due to its pricing of £5,650.

Another Urban Front feature was in the September issue of Homebuilding & Renovating, in a ‘Top Ideas For Front Doors’ article. The Raw E80 Doorset in a pitted bronze finish was featured, this doors price range starts from £11,900 plus VAT.

The Cheeran House, an Urban Front project was featured in Self Build & Design September issue as the home was in the line-up for the South House of The Year RIBA 2016 Award. This home with a Porto E80 Pivot in oiled Iroko with a side light in clear glass is a “beautiful house with beautiful use of light and space”.

House 19 was featured in two magazines in September, Self Build & Design and Studio. House 19 was also in the line-up for the South House of The Year RIBA 2016 Award. Both Urban Front and Exterior Solutions were a part of creating this incredible new build. Urban Front provided the Terano E80 oak stained in black bespoke front door and Exterior Solutions provided the burnt cedar cladding to the exterior of the home.

House 19 was featured in Studio. as part of the Professional Insight articles for the Architecture section. The article focuses on the incredible design of the home including the range of passive and active energy-saving features.

IQ Furniture had an article in the September issue of Chelsea Life. The article was titled ‘How to Create A Bespoke Wall Unit System Perfect for Your Home’ and focused on the Metropolis wall unit but STUDIO IQ. Metropolis is a modular bookcase with infinite layout possibilities.
