IQ Glass Case Study: Primrose Cottage

8 February 2019

Luxury glazing installation to a cottage renovation

IQ Glass was commissioned to design and install the glazing to this house extension in Chorleywood, Buckinghamshire (just down the road from Sky House Design Centre in Amersham). Glazing was a key aspect to this cottage extension as the main focus was to increase the amount of natural light within the home. Due to the design of cottages, they are often shady and dark with small windows in keeping with the cottage aesthetic, therefore the homeowners wanted to modernise their home with new, larger glazing systems.

Two sets of minimal windows® sliding glass doors were installed to the rear of the extension. This system is exclusive to IQ Glass in the UK and possesses outstanding levels of performance and design. With their slim aluminium frames, these sliding doors offer incredible views out into the family’s rear garden. The flush threshold of the base track created a seamless transition between the indoor and outdoor environments and therefore breaking the divide between these spaces.

Alongside the sliding doors, fixed aluminium framed windows were installed to further enhance the natural light within the property. A large fixed window was installed in between the sliding door, while slim and frameless clerestory windows were used between the doors and ceiling.

This beautifully glazed extension also benefitted from fixed rooflights manufactured from structural glazing to ensure the rooflights were completed frameless. These luxurious additions to the extension allow light to flood directly down into the space below.
