Interior Design Trend: Monochrome

15 March 2021

See how this classic interior design trend could work for you.

Monochrome is a trend as old as time, often used to achieve a classic look in both residential and commercial spaces. When you see the word monochrome, the instinct is to imagine shades of black, white and grey. But monochrome doesn’t just work in black and white, with a modern take on the trend utilising other colours.

Pink, for example, has been introduced in living areas to make a dramatic design statement. Various shades of one colour, whether neutral or bold, can result in elegant, luxury interior designs. More commonly, white spaces are used to present a clean, crisp feel. Although white will never go out of fashion, pushing boundaries with new and exciting colours is a sure fire way to spark interest and get adventurous within interior design.

This trend can be achieved through the colour of walls, flooring, internal building finishes and furniture choices. Bespoke elements can be customised to match the chosen colour, including curtains and blinds from Grants Blinds. When you specify curtain or blind systems from Grants, there is a wide range of fabrics and colours to choose from, including completely customised systems.

Lighting can also be adapted to suit this trend, using coloured LED light bulbs or mood lighting. Smart lighting can be specified as a standalone product from IndigoZest, or as part of a complete smart home automation system. As well as customised colours, the lighting can be set up to come on automatically or work in unison with other smart home systems.

One key advantage of using aluminium window systems is the ability to powder coat the frames in any RAL colour. The wide range of colour choices is not the only advantage, with IQ Glass offering specialist finishes including architectural bronze, as well as the option for different colours on the internal and external face of the windows.

Monochrome interior design can work in any room of a house, including kitchens. When working with a luxury kitchen designer like Watermark Kitchens, every detail from colour to integrated appliances can be tailored to meet your specific design needs. Kitchen counters can be painted in your chosen colour, with a different hue or material for the countertops.
