Roller Blinds From Grants Make An Impact On This Contemporary London Home

The client for this Grants Blinds project originally only owned the ground floor flat, until she purchased the remaining flats and converted the property into a single, wonderful home. Ten years on from the renovation, the client decided she wanted to extend the ground floor in order to create a better living space and kitchen.

Grants, the bespoke window tailoring company located in the Sky House Design Centre, were recommended to the client by the architect as well as by a family friend, at the beginning of the project. The roller blinds provided by Grants can be used to gently filter sunlight, provide privacy, reduce glare, protect floors and furniture from the sun (UV fading), or block out all light in a media room or bedroom.

During the design process, it was clear that natural daylight would be essential in filling the extended ground floor with light and life. Skylights, floor-to-ceiling glazing and minimal slim framed doors were installed in order to fulfil this requirement.

Another key request from the client was for everything to be concealed as much as possible, in order to prevent any possible obstruction of natural light through the large windows at the rear of the home. Roller blinds installed by Grants can be recessed in blind pockets, hidden behind the fascia, enclosed in cassettes which can be custom coloured to any RAL colour, or fully concealed within the ceiling in Blindspace® boxes for a contemporary minimalist design.

The seven motorised screen roller blinds fitted above window have been completely concealed accordingly, and the two external awnings also fully retract into the main building structure. The result is a sleek, adaptable design, which allows for adjustable shade or a total influx of light.

The flexibility of this design was essential in creating an expansive ground floor living space, with the potential to completely conceal the roller blinds enabling the home to be flooded by natural light during the warmer summer months. Alternatively, the rolling blinds can quickly be completely or partially lowered, providing protection from adverse weather conditions or respite from glaring sunlight.
